New Biodiesel Laws in Missouri and South Dakota (USA)

Missouri is looking at setting a biodiesel mandate of 5% which could match the highest biodiesel mandate in the country.

New Mexico will be B5 by 2012 and four other states have B2 mandates.

The Missouri bill passed the first preliminary approval hurdle this week and now needs to be voted on in the state House and Senate before moving forward.

In South Dakota, the Governor has signed into law a piece of legislation that drops the tax on diesel fuel by two cents a gallon if it contains at least five percent biodiesel blended in.

The law begins once South Dakota can make at least 20 million gallons of the biofuel a year.

Alternative Fuels: Biodiesel, Electricity, Ethanol, Hydrogen and Natural Gas

The following are some of the alternative fuel that are now available. The U.S. Department of Energy classifies them as Alternative fuel.

Biodiesel or mono alkyl esters, is a domestically produced, renewable fuel that can be manufactured from vegetable oils, animal fats, or recycled restaurant greases. Biodiesel is safe, biodegradable, and reduces serious air pollutants such as particulates, carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and air toxics. Basically, there is no engine modification that is required to make it work, and biodiesel sustains the payload capacity and range of a diesel.
