SANTA ROSA, California (October 26, 2004) - At ZAP, we thought that importing the Smart Car from Europe would be a hit in the U.S., mostly because of rising gas prices and because of the gas mileage--60 miles per gallon!

Little did we realize how amazingly popular the Smart Car is already in the United States, nor the extent to which the Smart Car has become a true popular culture icon all over the world. It is truly encouraging to know how many 'smart' people there are out there. More than 5000 people have visited the ZAP website to register their interest in ZAP's plans to import the Smart ForTwo.
One Smart owner is proud enough of his Smart Fortwo that he has created a whole website and spent countless hours creating images of the Smart car, some real and some not so real. Richard of Smarpache even allowed ZAP to post the image on its site as long as we referred people to his website. The most impressive image is a computerized model of the Smart Car that he created from the inside out, giving a detailed view of the car's overall design. "The reason why this site is called 'Smarpache' is because it was the first picture, of my own Smart, that I've manipulated and since this pic has traveled all over the net and is known by many people, I thought it would be smart to use this as an URL," says Richard the Smart enthusiast.
