SANTA ROSA, CA (March 23, 2007) -- Steve Schneider, CEO of electric car pioneer ZAP (OTCBB: ZAAP), announced that officials from Lotus Engineering toured ZAP's facilities in Santa Rosa, California, including its distribution center for the XEBRA electric car.
Schneider held meetings last week with Lotus Engineering in the UK to discuss plans to develop and manufacture a new generation of electric cars that incorporate advances in technology. Earlier this week, ZAP released conceptual drawings of the new ZAP-X electric Crossover SUV announced earlier this year, which will be based on Lotus Engineering's APX (Aluminum Performance Crossover) concept. While in Santa Rosa, Lotus Engineering Officials Steve Hunton and Rexford Parker had an opportunity to observe ZAP's progress in the manufacturing and distribution for the XEBRA line of electric sedans and trucks.
"I'm excited about the progress with the XEBRAs, particularly the XEBRA truck," said Hunton, who is Head of Commercial for Lotus Engineering.
ZAP calls the XEBRA sedan and truck "city-cars," an electric car design for inner city and short-circuit driving up to 40 MPH. Able to plug into any standard electrical outlet, the XEBRA was designed to quickly and affordably fill the need for all-electric cars and trucks brought on by recent high gas prices. The XEBRA is manufactured through a strategic partnership with a Chinese auto manufacturer and available through ZAP's authorized dealers at a price of about $10,000.
"After observing ZAP's progress over the past year, I've noticed the quality of the XEBRA has come a long way," said Rexford Parker, Head of West Coast Operations for Lotus Engineering. "I particularly like the steel construction of the ZAP truck."
