CNN: 5 Electric Cars You Can Buy Today
ZAP Xebra Electric Sedan
CNN did a round up of 5 electric cars that are available right now in the US. The five vehicles are an interesting selection, because if you look on the Internet it seems every car company has an electric car that they are already selling or that will come out over the next few years. So which is it? Are these the only five electric cars available right now? Or did CNN leave out a host of other vehicles?
Of course they omitted the ZAP Truck. So perhaps ZAP has 2 out of 6 of the electric cars/trucks available right now? One more important distinction is the slight innovation ZAP has made so that the Xebra can travel faster than 25 MPH, which most of the others are restricted to. Also the Xebra compares very favorably on price.
Lower price? Better Performance? How can you beat that?

Lessons
One lesson you should learn early in life:
Never state something as fact, unless you have researched it and know it to be fact!
EV's are being driven everyday all over this country. Yes, some states have different laws that some of these vehicles do not conform to but in some cases, those states have other laws they do fit in.
KY, just passed the use of 3 wheeled vehicles just so the Xebra line of ZAP is legal. CT "motorycycle" law didn't fit for zap but they have a "high mileage" vehicle code which it does qualify for. OH, changed one word in their "motorcycle" code and now it's all good in OH.
Who ever said that Government moves slow? Not when it comes to "green". Laws are being written, ammended and tossed overnight just to make sure citizens can enjoy the benefits of owning an EV.
So never say never and never quote what you've heard.
Some people never learned their lessons.
Legal in 44 states
The legality issue is not entirely true.
The ZAP vehicles are legal in all but 6 states.
I saw it on WLKY news this morning. They want to open up a new plant in Sheperdsville, KY and employ 350 people, but Kentucky is one of the six states that it's not legal in. However, it looks like the State of Kentucky is going to change the old law which does not allow enclosed motorcycles on the road (such as the 3-wheeler vehicle ZAP has)
The problem with those EVs
The problem with those EVs (other than ZAP) mentioned in the article is either they are not street legal, not available for sale yet or are so expensive as to make them completely out of reach for most people.
I don't think that's correct
I don't think that's correct to say that they're not street legal. They're not interstate / limited access highway legal. They are legal on any other road. I asked the police.
