Sun Shines on University of Arizona Solar Electric Parking Vehicle

TUCSON, Arizona -- University of Arizona Parking & Transportation Services reports they love their new parking enforcement vehicle, a solar-electric truck from ZAP that went into service this week on the Tucson campus. PTS says the main attraction for the new electric vehicle is that it gets part of its charge from the sun. According to statements in the campus newspaper, the Xebra was purchased to replace a 1998 gas engine pickup. The University says it has not purchased a gas vehicle since 2003 after implementing a purchasing policy for alternative fuels.

“Green is Gold” for ZAP Electric Truck Fleet Customer Ghilotti Construction

SANTA ROSA, California -- Kudos are in order for ZAP Fleet customer Ghilotti Construction Company in receiving a 2009 Business Environmental Alliance’s best practices award this February. Ghilotti was one of the first fleets to purchase ZAP’s new XL Truck, a larger truck for handling heavier loads. Ghilotti purchased the XL Truck along with its original Xebra truck for its fleet. Ghilotti operates an internal-combustion fleet of over 200 heavy duty vehicles, which they fuel with a biodiesel blend. Ghilotti also remodeled its headquarters using ‘green’ practices as well as promoting environmental awareness among its employees, according to the North Bay Business Journal.

Bill Expands Federal Electric Car Tax Credit

SANTA ROSA, CA (Feb 4, 2009) -- US electric vehicle developers like ZAP (OTC BB:ZAAP.OB) of Santa Rosa, California, are asking Americans to join in supporting a new bill that would give more tax credits to more kinds of electric vehicles. The new legislation, S271, would increase the number of plug-in vehicles able to receive the tax credits from 250,000 to 500,000. The tax credits would expand beyond conventional four-wheel automobiles to include three-wheel and two-wheel vehicles, as well as low-speed neighborhood electric cars. Electric vehicles like ZAP's Alias and others would receive a tax credit equal to a percentage of the purchase price up to $4,000.

The ZAP Alias is a 100% plug-in 2-seater capable of freeway speeds that will compete in the alternative category of the PIAXP, which was formed to encourage creativity in vehicle designs. The alternative class requires only two seats and an effective cruising range of 100 miles.
