While California Cuts Electric Car Goal, ZAP Holds Electric Car Dealer Training Friday in California
SACRAMENTO, Calif., March 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- It looks like California will again rule against electric cars, but that will not stop one California company from holding its electric car dealer sales and service training Friday in Santa Rosa, California.

California electric car pioneer ZAP (OTC Bulletin Board: ZAAP - News) makes one of the only vehicles today that fills the demand for affordable, practical electric cars. The ZAP Xebra electric city-car and truck are now available through ZAP's network of about 50 locations nationwide. You can request a test drive at a dealer near you on ZAP's website http://www.zapworld.com.
The California Air Resources Board meets in Sacramento today to consider a plan to cut the number of pure electric vehicles that carmakers would be required to sell over the next few years from 25,000 to 2,500. When the state enacted this zero-emission vehicle mandate in 1990, it called for 10 percent of new-vehicle sales from big automakers to be all-electric by 2003, or about 100,000 cars or more a year. Under pressure from automakers and the Bush Administration, that requirement was eventually delayed by several years and reduced to the current level. Automakers are testifying that a mix of cleaner-burning gasoline cars, hybrids and plug-in hybrids would be more realistic.
Advocates for electric cars are planning demonstrations today at the State Capitol in Sacramento driving their electric cars around to show the technology is practical today. Meanwhile, another kind of advocate is seeing increasing interest in its electric car business. Davis Electric Cars in nearby Davis, California is selling several models of electric vehicles today, including the ZAP Xebra. The dealership is located at 1605 Second Street in Davis. Contact them for a test drive at (530) 757-2275.

Outlook not as bleak as feared
It was feared that there would be up to 90% dilution of the 25,000 emission free car regulation, but it is only 70% (not wonderful but better than 90%), so the outlook is not as bleak as feared after all. Story is at "http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article/comments/view?f=/c/a/2008/03/27/MNU8VRLDK.DTL&o=2" I agree with Robert Sawyer who said "California needs every tool to meet its global warming goals... California is a place where electrical vehicles can and should happen."
